About the Artist

Justin Cooper's practice explores the concepts of cause and effect and chaos, and how these inform our understanding of natural materials, ecosystems and the human condition. Working in many different media, Cooper applies a meticulous attention to detail, a meditative approach to art-making and a prodigious skill to produce works that are immediately impactful, but also reward close inspection. Justin Cooper is a graduate of the National Art School in Sydney and has exhibited extensively around Australia as well as overseas. He has been a finalist in many art prizes, including the Doug Moran Portrait Prize (in which he received a Highly Commended in 2010) and the Rick Amor Drawing Prize. Cooper has also had residencies in Los Angeles (Jam Projects) and Paris (Storrier Onslow Paris Studio Residency).
